Sheath Gas Attachment (patented)

All JY ICPs feature a patented Sheath Gas feature, which allows for the use of a 3-mm injector tube. This large diameter injector tube increases the amount of sample arriving in the plasma for ionisation by a factor of 4 compared to the standard 1-1.2 mm injector tube. This automatically increases the signal-to-background ratio by a factor of 4 thus helping to lower detection limits. With an increase in emission such as this, the user can use shorter integration times (faster analysis) and narrow slits (improved resolution) without sacrificing the RSD of a measurement. In addition, the Sheath Gas allows the JY instrument to run samples with high levels of dissolved solids for long periods without clogging. The JY Emission product line of ICPs is the only line to offer the patented Sheath Gas feature.

HDD: High Dynamic Detector System

Jobin Yvon ICPs offer a patented High Dynamic Detection (HDD) system that combined with the IMAGE NAVIGATOR software allows the user to record the complete fingerprint of the sample. The HDD System allows the detector and electronics to respond immediately to changes in signal without saturating the detector or losing sensitivity. The linear dynamic of this system is 1010. This feature allows the system to respond to rapid changes in concentration like those seen when moving from traces to major concentrations without the need for detector preadjustment.

Polyscan

JY Emission offers a trademarked, patented PolyScan feature that allows each channel on the spectrometer to move +/- 2 nm around the channel wavelength using a stepper motor driven entrance slit.

Typically, this type of movement would be either tangential to the focal plane (Rowland Circle) or bisecting at an extension to the chord on the Rowland Circle. In either case as the slit is displaced from the focal plane of the spectrometer the image quality degrades through defocusing at the exit plane. This limits the ability to obtain an effective intensity measurement, and a degradation of instrument sensitivity.

The patented PolyScan feature incorporates Rowland Entrance Slit Translation or REST, allowing the slit to move on the focal plane and there is no defocusing at the exit plane. This configuration permits a +/- 4.4 mm movement of the entrance slit equivalent to +/- 2.2 nm at the exit plane. This large window of +/- 2.2 nm allows the spectrometer to have access to any wavelength emitting in that window. Using this feature with the Spark spectrometer allows the user to perform profile acquisitions of the spectrum around selected lines. By comparison of spectra of known and unknown samples, it is possible to verify the presence and perform the analysis of elements which have not been chosen within the analytical program.
