HDD DETECTION SYSTEM   The High Dynamic Range Detector system (HDD), developed by Jobin Yvon for use in the ULTIMA scanning ICP-AES spectrometer provides an increase in dynamic range to 5 x 1010. This allows the analysis of concentration levels ranging from ppb to percent for all elements without the need for adjustment of photomultiplier voltage or gain by the operator. The extremely low dark current exhibited by HDD provides excellent stability and improves the detection limits. With the HDD the ULTIMA is able to scan across the full wavelength range from 160 - 800 nm with high resolution within 2 minutes making semi-quantitative and quantitative analysis possible. No solid state detector can begin to capture the full spectrum with the speed, resolution and dynamic range that the HDD provides.
